Who loves learning? We sure do! During National Nursing Home Week, residents and staff had such a good time that the activity’s department decided to make science experiments a monthly thing. Last month’s experiment was Self-Inflating Balloons. First, fill a plastic bottle about halfway with vinegar, then put a teaspoon of baking soda into the balloon, lastly, put the balloon lips over the top of the bottle and watch it blow! Vinegar is acid and baking soda is the base, combined they create carbon dioxide, this gas has nowhere to go so the balloon expands. This experiment is not only safe and fun, but also easy as you may already have all the ingredients necessary.
